Encourage the person you are supporting to participate in choosing their own clothing. If needed, you can guide this by giving options that are appropriate for the weather. Remember it is up to them if they don’t feel like wearing something such as a bra or panty hose, then this is fine.

Tips for dressing

  • Don’t completely undress someone unless they are showering always do it in stages using a towel for dignity
  • When assisting to dress, you should start with the weaker arm or leg.
  • When assisting to undress, it is in reverse you should start with the stronger arm or leg
  • Ensure the clothing is suitable for the conditions.
  • Keep in mind that if they won’t be moving around they may feel the cold even on a warm day
